Common name: Blanchard's Cricket Frog

Scientific name: Acris blanchardi, Harper, 1947 

Genus name: Greek for akris which means locust. This refers to their call which sounds like insect song

Species name: honors the scientist Frank N. Blanchard source

You will also sometimes see this called Rana blanchardi, which is an older name (taxonomists are revising the Genus Rana because of recent genetic studies and the names are in transition).

Common name: Great Plains Toad

Scientific name: Anaxyrus cognatus, (Say, 1823)

Species name: Latin cognatus, meaning "related by birth" source

You may also see it called Bufo cognatus which is an older name (taxonomists are in the process of revising the Genus Bufo because of recent genetic studies).

Scientific name: Anaxyrus woodhousii, (Girard, 1854)

Species name: in honor of the scientist Samuel W. Woodhouse source

Scientific name: Spea bombifrons, (Cope, 1863)

Genus: Greek speos which means cave, cavern

Species: Greek bombos, which means buzzing and Latin frons, which means leaf or frond source
